EVALUATION & COURSE ASSESSMENT Students’ performance will be evaluated in two ways, assignment work during the course, and a compulsory End of Course exam. Assignments: Students must complete a minimum of four of the six written assignments and hand them in to the teacher for evaluation. Each adequately fulfilled assignment will be worth up to 10% in the Final Course Assessment, with a maximum of 50% to be earned towards the End of Course Exam score. End of Course Exam: All students must take the end of course exam in June. This will consist of a 20-30 line extract from one of the set texts (i.e. Joyce, Woolf, Orton), upon which they must write a critical commentary, showing how the text reflects the key themes of the work in general.* Worth up to 40% of the exam total. Written assignments should be considered practice towards this activity. There will be five questions on specific texts/authors covered in the course, each requiring an answer of 5-8 lines, worth 10% each. Students must answer between 3 out of the 5 questions. There will be a choice of two essay titles for students to write between 2 and 3 sides, to show their ability to relate works/authors to overall themes. 30% Other Factors: Regular attendance in class, evidence of preparatory reading and active participation will all be factors taken into consideration in the final assessment, at the discretion of the teacher. Plagiarism: Anyone presenting work that is clearly not originally their own or quoting at length another source without recognising this source in their text will automatically fail that part of the course in which the infraction was committed, and after a written warning, will fail the course automatically if they plagiarize again.
