Descripció general i informació rellevant - To understand the basic concepts of the sociolinguistics of variation, particularly as developed by Labov with respect to American varieties. - To identify and analyse the main varieties of contemporary English, particularly British and American varieties.

Recomanacions



Metodologia docent
Students will be taught basic techniques for the investigation of English genres using Internet resources and corpora. As many sessions as possible will be held in computer lab.

Metodologia avaluació
Active class participation: 20 % Mid-term test: 30% Two written assignments 50% (in which 40% will be for the quality of the English used). There will be a final exam for those who wish or need to improve their grade.
