THEORY: 15 hours will be devoted to theoretical sessions. Below is the list of topics dedicated to theoretical explanations governing the English language studied during the course: |
• compound nouns
• simple/continuous verb forms
• past simple/present perfect simple
• the definite article
• asking questions, tag questions
• the passive
• referring to the future
• two-part verbs
• infinitive or gerund
• types of adjectives, order of adjectives
• conjunctions
• conditionals
• relative clauses
• possibility and certainty
Each of these topics will be discussed in the context of 9 units taken from EVERYDAY TECHNICAL ENGLISH (2003) by Lambert and Murray. |
PRACTICE: 35 hours will be devoted to practise technical English for the world of engineering. |
PRACTICE: 35 hours will be devoted to practise technical English for the world of engineering on the basis of exercises borrowed mainly from Lambert and Murray’s EVERYDAY TECHNICAL ENGLISH as well as INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (2003) by Demetriades. Moreover, students will be confronted with a variety of authentic texts taken from SPECTRUM magazine. |

- translating, comparing translations
- close reading
- listening
- interactive activities
- individual and collective writing. |

Students will be asked to make a short oral presentation on any topic related to the world of telecommunication industry. |
Treballs |
One of the aims of this course is to make the student familiar with the type of language used in the world of industry and information technology. Therefore, they will be asked to write summaries of various articles taken from SPECTRUM magazine. |

Descripció |
In order to improve their English it is important for the student to discuss and analyse with the teacher the types of mistakes they make in the summaries of the articles.
Also, students' contribution with the teacher to make their oral presentations clearer and more professional wiil be taken into account when evaluating their work during the course. |
