Descripció general i informació rellevant This course is addressed to English Philology students who wish to practice and improve their writing skills. 1. To improve one's own writing skills. 2. To plan and organize one's own written work. 3. To practice one's own writing skills at the outline, sentence, paragraph and text level. 4. To identify and analyze the main characteristics of 5 different types of writing: description, narration, letter, argumentation and exposition. 5. To produce compositions of a descriptive, narrative, epistolary, argumentative and expository nature. 6. To apply various methods of written work revision, editing and correction to both one's own and others' written work. 7. To acquaint oneself with the most common errors made by native speakers of Spanish and/or Catalan when writing in English in order to be able to identify and correct them. 8. To talk about and discuss issues related to the organization and contents of one's own written work. 9. To practice reading one's own written work aloud to an audience. 10. To use the new technologies to acquire knowledge, carry out tasks, solve problems and improve aspects related to one's own English language learning process. 11. To value the importance of responsibility, self-organization, self-discipline and consistency when carrying out individual and group work as necessary qualities for personal development.

  Descripció
Activitats Introductòries For each session and before doing any written assignment, students will be given the theoretical and practical directions for the different kinds of compositions that will be dealt in class.
Presentacions / exposicions There will be written assignments in which students will be asked to show how proficient they are in writing narration, description, and argument.
Sessió Magistral The lectures will attempt to explain the topics included in the syllabus and provide the appropriate methodology for each form of writing.

Students will meet the teacher several times throughout the semester in order to discuss the problems that may arise from writing the essays.

Sessió Magistral This course is based on lectures and class discusions. You are expected to do the readings carefully and come prepared to discuss them in class. 30
Proves pràctiques There will be short written assignments, involving the skills that have been taught in class. All assignments must be turned in on time. Later essays will be graded down. If you need an extension, you must ask for it BEFORE the day the essay is due. 50
