Descripció general i informació rellevant The main objective of this course is to teach students to close-read screen texts. By using an approach based on literary techniques, students will learn to discern themes and motifs in internationally acclaimed films. Finally, students will learn to produce analytical essays on topics related to 20th and 21st century culture.

Metodologies
  Descripció
Activitats Introductòries During the introductory session the teacher will present the main features of the course. Students will learn about the contents of the course and other rellevant details.
Sessió Magistral Lecture-type sessions will present the topic of the unit. The teacher will introduce the main topic and will highlight the points students are supposed to recognize during the practical sessions. Literary, cinematographic and cultural references will be considered.
Pràctiques a través de TIC Students will watch the eleven feature films which make up the core of the course. Thanks to the information received during the lecture sessions students will focus their attention on the main cultural items portrayed in the films.
Debats Debates will take place every week (one per unit), and will present the conslusions reached by the students after watching the films. Discussion will be free, though guided by the teacher, who will try to focus the students' attention onto the main points of interest.

The intorductory session will serve to present the subject and to highlight the main points of the course.

Proves de Desenvolupament There will be 3 in-class essays in which students will have to write on a rellevant topic. The essay questions will be related to films previously discussed in class. 60
Proves de Desenvolupament There will be a "final" exam/essay in which students will have to write on a rellevant topic. The essay questions will be about one specific film, but they may also ask for a comparative analysisof several films. 40
 
Altres comentaris i segona convocatòria

Notice that the "final"exam/essay is not such because it only accounts for 40% of the final grade. Students are strongly recommended to attend classes regularly and take all the essays. Students who need the second sitting to pass the course will be advised individually, and this will depend on the amount of work they had done during the term.

Altres comentaris
Class attendance is extremely important. Film analysis will be an essential part of the course. Although most of the films will be available either from the "Aula d'Autoaprenentatge" or from the Library (so that students can watch them again) it is expected that students watch and analyze the films collectively with their peers and participate in the discussions.
