To offer a critical survey of research on the acquisition of English as a second and foreign language and how these findings can be applied to classroom language teaching. At the end of the course students should have acquired: - a scientific perspective on what learning an additional language entails - the relevant skills to analyse the output produced by second language learners - and knowledge and skills in order to have an informed critical opinion on issues related to language learning and language planning

  Description
Activitats Introductòries Definition and key issues in Second Languiage Acquisition.
Sessió Magistral Students will have to read and prepare in avance the different readings that will serve as the text for the course. Most of these readings are journal articles or book chapters on the specific topics. These articles and chapters will then be explained in class.
Pràctiques a través de TIC Students will have to read on-line material as well as use this tool to find some new information based on the topic discussed in class.
Resolució de problemes, exercicis Students will have to do some activities based on the different topics studied in class.

Description
Throughout the course, the student will have to fulfill several tasks. Therefore, the teacher expects the students to send all their questions, doubts, comments, etc on the activities by e-mail, or by visiting the teacher in her office.

Proves objectives de preguntes curtes Throughout the course the students will be asked to do 5 tests (short questions to check the students' knownledge on theoretical contents). 50%
Proves pràctiques Final essay based on the contents of the course.

Proves orals Each group of three- four students will present their research work before their classmates. The main topic will be given by the teacher. 25%
 
Other comments and second exam session

If your overall grade is 50% then you pass the course.
If you miss or fail one of the exercises, but your final grade adds up to 50% (tests+oral presentation+final essay), you will NOT have to do a final exam (segona convocatòria).
