This module will give you some ideas to think about but certainly no solutions! The module will discuss theoretical positions from Postmodernism to Posthumanism and will focus on ways of looking and ways of understanding.

Objectius d'aprenentatge
Objectives Competences
The objectives of this course are: To understand that critical theory will help us to recognise and analyse the power structures at work in the construction of gender, identity, nationalism and processes of symbolic interpretation. To understand that language is central to the construction and deconstruction of meaning. To understand that bodies and the spaces they inhabit are not "given" but are socially constructed. To understand the dialectic in which bodies and spaces enter and how issues like materiality and fluidity are gendered and politicized. AR1

  Description
Activitats Introductòries The introduction to this course will be based on feedback from the students to determine how widely you have read in the area of cultural theories. There will also be an introduction to the texts in the dossier, the grading system, and seminar presentations. This will be followed by readings from texts
Sessió Magistral Each of the main topics will be introduced in lecture form. You will then be asked to read and prepare the required reading texts in the dossier.
Seminaris Seminar sessions will be based on readings and class debates. The material to be discussed might be written or visual.
Presentacions / exposicions Each student will be asked to prepare a seminar during the course. You may choose your own topic, so long as it is consistent with the theories we cover. You will be encouraged to be adventurous in your teaching of the seminar by introducing new material, motivating your classmates to ask questions and engage in discussion.

Description
Students will be required to come to tutorials in my office hours and they will be encouraged to keep in contact with me via e-mail.

Avaluació
  Description Weight
Presentacions / exposicions You will be asked to prepare a class presentation in power-point on a subject of your choice related to the course. You should discuss your subject with me first in a tutorial session then prepare a summary of your presentation for your classmates. This summary will be added to Moodle. Remember that you will have to initiate the discussion and motivate the others to join in. You will also have to "teach" them new material so make your seminar as interesting as possible. 60%
Proves objectives de tipus test There will be three tests during the course to determine how closely you have read and understood the material in your dossier.
30%
Proves de desenvolupament You will be required to write 2 summaries of articles from the dossier. Guidelines will be given on how to do this. In the tutorials the following points will be graded:
* your understanding of the article
* your ability to raise issues relating to other texts
