General description and relevant information The ability to communicate fluently in English is paramount . In general, much of what students have studied in English classes so far has to do with grammar and vocabulary , and usually students have had little opportunity to practice and use the language . Therefore this subject is to offer students an important opportunity to use the language orally.

A number of different topics will be followed and for each there will be a listening test and oral presentation.

Theory - Theory of speaking - presentation outlines and delivery
- Theory of listening - SIER model, what makes a good listener
- Introduction to IPA symbols and problems for Spanish and Catalan speakers

Introductory activities Course pesentation
Problem solving, classroom exercises Students will have a total of 3 weekly teaching hours devoted to practising speaking and listening skills. The group will be divided into 2 groups for this practice.

Lecture The theory of the subject in a weekly one hour class, with accompanying practical exercises.
Presentations / expositions Oral presentations given by students on specific topics
Personal tuition Students can personally contact the teacher in the office or through Moodle

All components of the Continuous Assessment should be presented for the student to be eligible to pass the course on Continuous Assessment. Missing a part, obliges the student to go to the Final Exam, independent of the overall Continuous Assessment score.

The final resit exam includes presentation exercises 50% and listening tasks 50%.
