General description and relevant information This subject offers a multifaceted approach to the history, geography and culture of English-speaking countries. The main objective is to provide students with key concepts to understand the history, economy, political life, society and culture of Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States and other English-speaking countries.

Activitats Introductòries Warm-up session to elicit previous knowledge of the subject and specific expectations
Seminaris All classes in this course are a combination of theoretical information provided by the lectures, and practical discussion of the main topics. Students are expected to participate actively in the discussions elicited by analysing articles, essays, films, documentaries related to the topics studied in class.
Atenció personalitzada Students will be encouraged to contact the teacher through e-mail, whenever they have doubts concerning the course topics or explanations in class. Alternatively, students may meet the teachers personally by maing an appointment within the visiting hours. General information will be given in class or through Moodle.

The teacher will make public her visiting hours at the beginning of the term.

Analysis and discussion on a topic from the table of contents.
The Seminar sessions will deal with topics previously developed in introductory lectures. Students will be asked to take part in seminars by preparing questions, readings or small research related to a given topic studied in class.

Each student will work on a personal project (either individually or in group), chosen from a list of suggeted titles presented by the teacher at the beginning of the course. This project will have three obligatory parts: research (tutorial); class presentation and written summary of the results and conclusions.
This is an essential part of the Continuous Assessment: only students who attend classes regularly can take the Class presentation.

Other comments and second exam session

Students are expected to attend classes regularly. Students who fail /choose not to attend classes, cannot be assessed within the "continuous assessment" system. In this case, they will have to take a final exam ( or second sitting: segona convocatòria).
