Descripció |
Activitats Introductòries |
The course will begin with an initial discussion of the role of the professional editor and how this relates to the role of the professional translator. The course design, structure and format will also be presented and the course assignments and evaluations will be defined. |
Resolució de problemes, exercicis |
The consolidation (homework) exercises are designed to enable students to practise the concepts of copy editing and style editing analysed during the group sessions. These exercises will be discussed thoroughly in class during the following group session. |
Seminaris |
Seminars will be held on copy editing and on style editing. During these sessions, the basic concepts of the rules and guidelines will be presented and discussed, anecdotes, examples and illustrations will be provided, and consolidation assignments will be set to be completed outside the classroom. |
Pràctiques a través de TIC |
Students will be given a final editing assignment in which they will practise their newly acquired editing skills by revising the translation of one of their colleagues. They will also be given a final translation assignment to test their translation ability and their response to the revision of their work conducted by one of their colleagues. Both of these assignments will be completed via the online course management system. |
Atenció personalitzada |

Students registered at the URV follow the ECTS system and have the right to the examination sessions outlined in the current academic regulations governing undergraduate and Master's degree courses. Assessment for this course will be as follows. Online mode First call: 1 preliminary translation assignment 5% 1 preliminary copy editing assignment 5% Consolidation exercises on copy editing 15% Consolidation exercises on style editing 15% 1 quiz on copy editing 5% 1 quiz on style editing 5% Assignments on copy editing 15% Assignments on style editing 15% 1 self-revision assignment 10% 1 post-editing assignment 10% Second call: Students will complete the translation of a text from Spanish into English. In addition to producing an accurate and complete translation, they will need to focus on achieving clarity and concision, particularly if the source text is neither clear nor concise. To do so they will need to bear in mind the stylistic transposition techniques we have discussed in class and provide examples of where they have used them. They must also bear in mind the copy editing rules we have analysed in class. |
