General description and relevant information
Effective listening and speaking are essential in an academic context. This course seeks to help students develop their oral skills in English to facilitate their academic success in a higher education setting. Students need to develop their listening skills in order to interpret what people are saying in different academic situations, understand the content of lectures and seminars as well as build on the contributions of other participants. Similarly, by improving their speaking skills, students will be able to interact with lecturers, other classmates and administrative staff in various academic situations such as tutorials, discussions, meetings with tutors and supervisors during office hours, group projects, and informal social interactions.

First call: CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT:

1. The passing grade for this course is 60%

2. This course is made up of a number of activities that have to be completed. In order to pass the course, you can fail only one course activity in each teacher's group. All activities are compulsory

3. Attendance and participation: Notice that this is a fully practical course. Therefore, the final grade will be based on regular class attendance, active participation and successful completion of all the tasks. For that reason, a minimum of 60% attendance is required to pass the course in the first call. If you do not attend our sessions regularly or if you fail the course, you will have to take the 2nd Call Exam.

4. No late assignments will be accepted. No tests/exams will be taken outside scheduled dates and times.

Second call:

If students fail to pass their first call based on continuous assessment, they will have to take a single exam (with practical exercises and a variety of tasks to reflect the contents of the course) for the second call. The result of this exam will determine the final grade of the course.
