Methodologies
  Description
Introductory activities Course presentation (aims, content, learning methods, assessment).
Lecture Presentation and explanation of course contents, to support and complement practice in the acquisition of the corresponding linguistic and meta-linguistic knowledge.
Problem solving, classroom exercises Exercises completed in the class sessions (corrections will be explained in English, preferably by the students), to:
(a) increase the student's degree of grammatical accuracy,
(b) initiate training in basic description and analysis of the English language, and
(c) detect and deal with any especially problematic aspects.
Previous studies Reviewing and revising for written exams. Complementation (with brief readings) of class lectures.
Problem solving, exercises Class exercises designed to check student's actual knowledge and command of each new topic, and to detect any areas which may require special attention.
Assignments Students will have to write a short paper on a specific grammatical point.

No late assignments will be accepted.
No tests/exams will be taken outside scheduled dates and times.
In cases where results are borderline, regular attendance (above 80%) and active participation in class discussions may be taken into consideration, at the tutor's discretion.

Primera Convocatòria (Continuous Assessment) requires 3 marks (paper, mid-term exam, final exam) and a minimum of 60% in both exams to compute for the final grade.

Segona Convocatòria will consist of a written exam worth 100% which will include questions and exercises on all the topics covered in the course. Students must obtain a minimum of 60% to pass this exam.

According to URV regulations, “el professor podrà establir a la Guia Docent aquelles mesures que consideri oportunes per al bon desenvolupament de les activitats avaluatives. Les mesures podrien incloure limitacions pel que fa a l'ús o tinença de dispositius de comunicació i transmissió de dades durant la realització de les proves i seran d'obligat compliment per part de l'estudiantat" (art. 21 NAM Grau i art. 20 NAM Màster). This means that the use of mobile phones or any such devices will not be allowed while students carry out evaluable tasks.

The above two items are indispensable course material for both English Language 1 and 2. In both cases, students should acquire them with answers, and in the first case, with CD-Rom.
