Descripció general i informació rellevant The ability to communicate proficiently in English is of the utmost importance, as this constitutes “tool of the trade” for the students of this major. Most of the times, much of what students have studied in English language courses so far is related to grammar and vocabulary, and more often than not students have had little opportunity to practise and use the language. Therefore, this subject, together with DESTRESES COMUNICATIVES: SPEAKING AND LISTENING II, tries to offer students ample opportunity to use the language in its oral form.

A number of different topics will be followed and for each there will be a listening test and oral presentation.

Theory - Discourse features and strategies to include:
problem-solution discourse patterns, strategies for active listening, ellipsis and substitution, concession and contrast, agreeing and disagreeing, conversation-building and modifying comments.
- Introduction to IPA symbols and problems for Spanish and Catalan speakers
NB: The exact course contents are subject to change and will depend on time limitations and students´ needs.

Resolució de problemes, exercicis a l'aula ordinària Students will have a weekly total of 3 teaching hours devoted to speaking and listening practice.

For these 3 hours of speaking and listening practice (the group will be divided into 2 groups)

The subject is based on continuous assessment for which students are required to do a number of listening tests and to give a number of oral presentations in class.
Sessió Magistral There will be a weekly 1hr lecture session devoted to speaking and listening theory with some practice exercises.

Students´ progress will be monitored throughout the course and feedback will be given on regular basis. Students can personally contact the teacher in the office or through moodle
