Seminar sessions for the analysis and discussion of the novels and short stories in the set reading list. Students will have read the texts beforehand, according to the course calendar, and to the guidelines suggested by the teacher. |
Sessió Magistral |
The main concepts of fiction, and recurrent themes through the 19th and 20th centuries will be presented in class, or on-line, and then exemplified through specified texts, which the students are expected to have read beforehand. |
Treballs |
Students will be asked to write written commentaries on three specified texts. These commentaries will be prepared at home, and either uploaded to Moodle, or written in response to a specific question in class. |
Presentacions / exposicions |
Each student will undertake the study of one literary work (novel or short story) of his/her choice from a list of works suggested by the teacher. Depending on the number of students in class, this activity may be carried out in groups. The result of the individual /group work will be presented in class, before the whole group. Each presentation will be followed by a five minutes’ forum for discussion on the presentation. |
Atenció personalitzada |
Students must attend tutorial sessions, to explain which novel/short stories they intend to present in class, and then the outline of that presentation. |
Descripció |
Each student will be given personal attention in the form of individual tutorials. The aim of these tutorials is to help students who may have doubts or difficulties in following the course. Tutorials will be obligatory as part of the student’s individual work and previous to their class presentation. All students will be encouraged to visit their teacher whenever they have any doubts concerning the course. |

Students may choose to keep a journal, with two entries of 300 words each per week, in which the student comments on the texts being read in class, before and after the class in which the texts are discussed. The journal is a record of the student's learning process. It will be considered an alternative to the 'Treballs' and will have the same value (30% of the course mark) |

Students who do not attend classes regularly and consequently do not complete the Continuous Assessment programme satisfactorily will have to take the final exam. The final exam will consist of short questions to test understanding of concepts related to types of narrative, 40%, text commentaries based on the set texts of the course 40%, and a short essay on one of the novels/short stories selected from the list of suggestions, 20%. |
