General description and relevant information The course provides a general overview of contemporary translation technologies, mainly translation memories and machine translation. It also looks at a range of other electronic tools that are of use in general writing and terminology work.

 A9 Use effectively a set of CAT tools in translation, correction, publishing, terminology, formatting and documentary research (e.g. word processors, spell checkers and grammar, Internet, translation memories, terminology databases , speech recognition programs).
 A11 Become familiar with and adopt new multimedia and audiovisual translation tools, translation memories and machine translation.
 A12 Create and manage databases and files for their use in the field of translation and linguistic consulting.

Introductory activities Introduction to the virtual platform, syllabus review.

Explanation of the role of technologies in the workflow.
Problem solving, exercises The student learns to use assisted translation programs and translation memories through practical group activities:

Translation activities with TM, MT and TM/MT, Postediting activities, Peer revision and postediting,
Pre-editing activities, Empirical comparisons of the major variables.
IT-based practicals Students learn to create and manage databases through collaborative group activities
Personal attention Questions can be answered via email, Skype, or face-to-face tutorials.
