To the aspects of organometallic chemistry needed for homogenous catalysis such as the transition metal-organic ligand bond types and the reactivity of the organometalic involved in catalytic cycles.
To understand the following most important processes in homogenous catalysis: hydrogenation, carbonylation, C-C and C-heteroatom bond formation, oxidation, catalyst recovery methods and their importance regarding sustainability.
To design and prepare the most suitable type of catalyst for each process.

3.Neutral pi-donor and pi-accepter ligands.
4.Oxidation addition and reducing elimination reactions.
5.Insertion and elimination reactions.
6.Concepts of homogenous catalysis. Catalytic cycles.
7.Isomerisation. Synthesis of menthol: the Takasago process.
8.Hydrogenation of C=C, C=N, C=O.
9.C-C bond formation reactions: Allylic substitutions, Heck, Suzuki and related reactions.
10.Carbonylation reactions: Carbonylation of methanol and methyl acetate.
11.Hydroformylation. Phosphate ligands Applications: Solvents, plastifiers and intermediates.
12.Metathesis reactions. Different generation catalysts.

This subject is evaluted by continuous assessment.

During the exams, any mobil telephone, tablet or other device that has not been expressly authorized for the exam must be switched off and out of view.


Any attempt to pass any exam of any subject by fraudulent means (be this physical or electronic) will result in the student being awarded a fail for the exam in question. In addition to this, the gravity of the offence may lead the faculty/school to propose that the student be subjected to disciplinary proceedings, which will be initiated by a resolution from the rector.
