General description and relevant information The student will have to develop a research work within one of the research groups at DEIM, in one topic relevant to the chosen itinerary.

Selection technique
Procedures

The PhD lecturers of the Master topics will prepare Master Thesis proposals, which are validated in less than 15 days by a committee composed by the head of the Computer Engineering BSc degree, the head of the Computer Engineering and Mathematics of Security PhD and the Master coordinator. This validation will make sure that the information on the work to be done is compete and correct, that there is no repetition or overlapping in the proposals, that they fit in the Master general topics, etc. Proposals must include the following information:

- Title, director, codirectors, research group, keywords.

- Introduction, presenting the area of work, which is the problem to be solved, why it is relevant, which have been the previous proposals and why they are not satisfactory, including the relevant bibliography.

- Objectives of the work to be developed.

- Tasks to develop to accomplish the objective, with an associated temporal planning.

Proposals will be exposed in the Moodle space of the Master, which is visible for enrolled students. If a students finds a topic of his/her interest, he/she will contact the proposing lecturer, thjat can admit the student and ask the Master coordinator to assign him/her this work. This assignment will be marked in the Moodle space of the Master. The length of the assignment is one academic year. If the work is not finished at the end of the academic year, the director may decide to keep the proposal with the same student, keep the proposal but deassign the student, or retire the proposal.

Specific action plan / execution
Methodologies
  Description
Introductory activities Talk with the academic tutor to know the research groups at DEIM and their interests. Contact with the chosen research group to know in more detail their work topics, and define a specific research work.
Selection/assignation of the Master's degree final project The student may freely choose any of the Master Thesis proposals made by the lecturers of DEIM, that are available in the Master's Moodle space.
Mechanisms for coordinating and monitoring the Master's degree final project The Master Thesis director will make a personalised and continuous assessment of the work developed during all the semester, guiding the student in the different stages of the work.
Composition of the Master's degree final project The student has to work in a continuous way during one semester on the research tasks required to develop the assigned work, under the supervision of the director.
Previous studies The student has to develop a state of the art in the chosen topic before starting the research.
Assignments Development of the research work and writing of the documentation in electronic and paper formats.

Description
The project advisor supervises the research personally, depending on the needs of the topic, the research work and the evolution of the learning process of the student.

- Amount of work of the student.
- Other aspects (e.g. publications derived from the work).

The Master Thesis may be presented in June or in September.

In general, it is recommended that the Master Thesis is the last topic made by the student, after he has succesfully covered all the other courses in the Master.
