General description and relevant information

The course is scheduled to be taught in person and this presence will be maintained if the regulations that may be issued by the health authorities and other competent bodies do not say otherwise, and the capacity requirements allow it. If there are changes they will be reported to the Moodle space of the subject.The Urbanism I Projects VI course is the continuation of the research on Migration developed in the previous Urbanism I and Projects V courseThe teachers of the second quadrimeter of 4º of Urbanism I and Projects VI plan the course as a year of research on contemporary issues. This is a course that wants, from architecture, to imagine scenarios, habitats, spaces for a better world. We want this project and urban planning course to reflect on real problems. We firmly believe in the ability of the architect to transform and improve the territory and society from an optimistic, committed and open attitude. MIGRATION AND TERRITORY Urgency and OpportunityThis course aims to study Migration as a social phenomenon, on a global scale, which silently affects the territory and our cities. A problem of the contemporary world that urgently calls for proposals and architectural views. Migrations are today a phenomenon that demands, from a humanitarian and architectural point of view, urgent attention. We cannot, from an architecture school that teaches how to design the city, housing and the landscape, ignore a problem on an urban, territorial and climatic scale. A question that inevitably needs the voice of the architect to be addressed with imaginative solutions and strategies to improve the contemporary living and social environment. Migrations are a social phenomenon that urgently demands decisions and architectural, urban design, infrastructure and landscape projects. Despite this, we do not want this 4th year of Projects and Urbanism to become an anthropology or humanities course. But maintaining a passive attitude, consciously not paying attention, to a global social and human problem is, without any doubt, a serious mistake.We do not want to approach this course from the perspective of social responsibility and critical pessimism. Nor do we want to become the saviors of an extreme humanitarian situation. From our awareness, sensitivity and social responsibility, we want to address the problem of migration as an opportunity for the host territory. An opportunity to enrich culture and the local economy.

MIGRATION LABORATORY. EAR
In the 4th year of the EAR, we like to propose project and urban planning courses that deal with topics within a more general research framework. We want our projects developed during the courses to be used to explore problems that require new architectural solutions. We like to treat the 4th year as a thematic laboratory that investigates and focuses attention, for a few years, on current issues.
We have been working on tourism for five years. We have imagined new tourist models capable of generating new social events of cultural exchange in a new responsible economy with the planet and the effects of climate change.
We want to start a new laboratory this year: the Migration Laboratory. A space for research and proposal on a contemporary problem that calls for architectural and urban solutions. A laboratory to understand and study with precision an issue of social urgency, and to be able to imagine new and better scenarios from knowledge

Segurament el primer acte d'arquitectura sigui la protecció del cos de la climatologia, protegir-lo de la calor, del fred, de l'aigua i del vent. I vestir-nos es converteix en el primer contacte –íntim- d'arquitectura. En reunir-nos en la mínima expressió comunitària (més d'una persona) ja no ens serveix només el vestit, ens fa falta un abric comú, la primera casa, sigui cova o cabana. Les necessitats econòmiques, de protecció i de garantia de serveis ha portat l'home ha reunir-se agrupadament i formar les primeres manifestacions col•lectives. Llocs on la necessitat de l'organització física de les unitats ha donat origen a l'haver de compartir recorreguts de mobilitat i serveis col•lectius. Aquesta és la llavor de la ciutat.

Les ciutats que habitem i usem se sustenten sobre l'habitatge que n’és la raó de ser i la la matèria bàsica. L'habitatge és l'argamassa de les ciutats. Més enllà de l'especialització urbana (ciutats de negocis, d'oci....) en qualsevol organització urbana, per més petita o gran que sigui, l'habitatge és la seva matèria substancial. I per tal que sigui possible la vida urbana, calen carrers, i també places, parcs i jardins, per a poder-nos moure per ella, calen equipaments on allotjar les activitats a fer col•lectivament, i també calen territoris de treball (sigui indústria, comerç o agricultura...).

I en aquest procés que va del cos a la ciutat entenem l’arquitectura com aquella cadena d’accions, que provoquen la modificació de la trajectòria d’un lloc. Una trajectòria en marxa, de la que mai podrem conèixer ni el seu origen ni el seu final. La feina de l’arquitecte es limita, encara que amb tota la intensitat possible, a modificar la trajectòria ja en curs. I així és com volem entendre l’arquitectura, la capacitat per modificar la història, i per tant la trajectòria, d'un lloc, construït o no, perquè l'arquitectura no distingeix si el lloc està o no construït. L'arquitectura estaria més propera a la mirada que transforma, a la provocació, a l'activació del lloc. Perquè no només es tracta d'intervenir en la trajectòria del lloc, sinó en la trajectòria de la cultura, provocant que com aprenents de mestissatge, amb el creuament de situacions arrencades d'altres geografies i perquè no d'altres temps, la definitiva activació del lloc. I a més l’arquitectura no és només construcció i ho és, també és clima, és vida, és ocupació, és memòria…

En l’origen, el paisatge, el territori sobre el qual l’home ha anat deixant totes les petjades acumulades pel pas del temps, és aquest lloc sobre el que seguirem afegint noves capes que seguiran modificant-lo, amb accions evidentment temporals –siguin de curta o llarga durada- d’arquitectura. La consciència del paisatge, l’orografia, el sol, l’aigua, el vent, la vegetació i també els animals, determinarà l’atenció sensible de les accions que el transformin. Per això ens importa molt com des de temps immemorials l’home ha anat transformant amb més o menys cura el paisatge, per a fer-lo habitable, i en el temps convertir-lo en ciutats.

El territori, el paisatge són l’empremta física heretada de les evolucions ideològiques de la civilització, i cal saber-les llegir. Saber com i què hem de fer de les ciutats és un debat públic en permanent evolució i transformació. L’urbanisme és vehicle de pensament, expressió del progrés. El debat social, la lluita de classes, els fets religiosos, la tecnologia, l'ecologia, la comunicació... hi estan adherides.
Els objectius del curs estan fonamentats en aquestes manifestacions, i serà a través de l’exercici de l’arquitectura, matèria constituient de la ciutat, que assolirem l’aprenenetage i la metodologia de comprensió de la construcció de la ciutat. Cercant allò que n’és essencial. En primer lloc, consolidar l’ús dels elements que intervenen en la formació de la ciutat presentats i assajats en cursos precedents, en segon lloc, assajar, conèixer i viure models edificats de creixement urbà, en tercer lloc relacionar la disciplina tecnològica necessària amb la creativitat individual i del conjunt d’agents que intervenen en la formació a través d’una metodologia que facilita evolucionar des del disseny de l’habitatge a la creació d'un fragment de ciutat, i en darrer lloc obrir finestres per on vincular l’argument del curs amb l’entorn territorial, el paisatge i la professió.

És objecte del curs dotar-se amb les tècniques mínimes que permetin vehicular les idees per a construir la ciutat. Aprendre i assajar amb les eines de l’arquitecte-urbanista l’anatomia de les ciutats; l’anatomia del territori, sabedors que els materials de construcció del territori són l’arquitectura i l’agricultura. I el paisatge serà la disciplina que permetrà confrontar-los.

A quart curs de la carrera d'arquitectura, quan els alumnes ja coneixen pels cursos anteriors els ingredients que determinen la complexitat de la ciutat, ha arribat el moment de cuinar amb tots ells per així projectar ciutat. Si fins ara podíem aïllar-los com si fossin capes una darrera l'altra (mobilitat, teixit i identitat), ara es tracta de treballar amb tots ells alhora, per entendre que a la ciutat tots ells són imprescindibles.

Aquest és per tant un curs que s'ocupa de fer ciutat, a partir de la seva condició fundacional, l'hàbitat. I és així que entenem que per fer ciutat, hem de començar per saber quines són les condicions de confort que configuren l'espai domèstic, perquè de les seves condicions (la relació amb la llum, el sol, la temperatura, l'aigua, el vent...) en podrem conèixer les possibilitats d'agrupació. I de les possibilitats d'agrupació podrem esbrinar els mecanismes urbans on l'espai col•lectiu (carrers, places, jardins...) organitzi les agrupacions diverses, i sigui suport també de les activitats i necessitats col•lectives (esport, lleure, educació, sanitat....)

Introductory activities	El primer dia de taller es reparteix el programa definitiu del curs, i s’exposen els continguts i criteris, teòrics i pràctics.
Presentations / oral communications	Al llarg de quadrimestre es realitzaran les presentacions col•lectives dels exercicis realitzats al taller.
Workshop (architecture)	Jornades pràctiques i participades que ocupen la major part del temps de l'assignatura. En fomat col·lectiu, en grup de treball i individualment. Són condició indispensable: l'assistència i el desenvolupament de continguts del curs a l'aula taller
Laboratory practicals	En paral•lel als exercicis troncals del curs, es porta a terme un laboratori de pràctiques que facilita l’assoliment dels objectius del quadrimestre. El laboratori constarà de diverses pràctiques amb un eix argumental comú, i la companyia d’un llibre de capçalera que serà de lectura obligatòria. Potestativament, en funció de la complexitat dels exercicis del taller, el professorat pot determinar l'acumulació del continguts de els pràctiques al Taller i les Presentacions/exposicions
Fieldwork/excursions	Al llarg de quadrimestre es realitzaran un viatge de visita de continguts objecte del curs i de l’espai on es desenvolupen els exercicis. I diverses visites a obres, complement de les matèries teòriques i suport de les sessions de contingut teòric a debatre

Cada quadrimestre ocupa un total de 15 setmanes en les que es realitzaran exercicis de forma individual i/o en grup. Les dates de finalització i lliurament dels exercicis es comunicaran junt amb l’enunciat. El mateix dia del lliurament es donarà l’enunciat del següent exercici.

Laboratory practicals

En paral•lel als exercicis nuclears del curs, desenvoluparem un laboratori de pràctiques que acompanyarà acceleradament cap al destí del quadrimestre. El laboratori constarà de tres a vuit pràctiques amb un eix argumental comú, i la companyia d’un llibre de capçalera que serà de lectura obligatòria.
