| Students will become aware of essential concepts of language change and Historical Linguistics in general, as well as being apply to recognise their application to the case of the English language. The course will require students to read sometimes complex texts, so will need a thorough and intelligent use of all linguistic and critical skills acquired until this point of the degree course. It is possible to pass the course on the basis of in-course tests and seminar-work and exercises. For students unable to attend regularly and do all the in-class tests, a second option will be: Final Exam 60% Class Exercises 20% Attendance 10% Participation 10% NB: PASSING GRADE FOR THE COURSE IS 60% OF TOTAL. BELOW 60% WILL BE CONSIDERED A COURSE FAIL. |
